Education Background
Zhangyuan Pan received his BSc degree in Bioengineering (2009) from Huzhou University, Zhejiang, China. His MS degree in Animal Genetic Breeding & Reproduction (2012) from Yangzhou University, Jiangsu, China. His Ph.D. in Animal Genetic Breeding & Reproduction (2016) from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing, China. And he worked as a Postdoc at University of California, Davis, Animal Science Department from 2018 to 2022.
Research Area
Zhangyuan Pan majority focus on animal epigenomics. He is mainly engaged in the research of livestock and poultry functional target mining and analysis. He has proposed different research strategies for genetic regions, regulatory regions and cross-species conserved regions by using the interdisciplinary intersection of genomics, epi-genomics, bioinformatics and molecular biology. He constructed and improved the regulatory element maps of several livestock and poultry species, broke the SNP Linkage Disequilibrium, and significantly improved the mining efficiency of regulatory targets in non-coding regions. He also works on cross-species comparison and try to promote the cross-species application of conserved functional targets. To date, he identified a number of functional targets related to traits such as horn, tail fat, daily weight gain, and disease resistance. He presided and participated in many national natural science funds and undertaken several international collaborative projects. He was invited as a speaker in the International Society for Animal Genetics Conference (ISAG, 2021) and the Plant & Animal Genome Conference (PAG, 2022), and won the "Best Academic Poster Award". He has published 18 papers as first author in top journals such as Nature Communications (IF=17.69), Science Advances (IF=14.14), Genome Biology (IF=17.906) (co-first-author), GigaScience (IF=7.267), BMC Genomics (IF=3.594) and handed 5 national invention patents.
