Education Background
Caihong Wei received her BSc degree in Animal Husbandry (1989) from Gansu Agricultural University, Lanzhou, China, her MS degree in Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction (2004) from Gansu Agricultural University, Lanzhou, China and her Ph.D. in Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction (2012) from Gansu Agricultural University, Lanzhou, China.
Research Area
Professor Wei was engaged in the research of animal genetic resources evaluation, animal genetic breeding and biotechnology. Her research focuses on genetic mechanisms of muscle development and tail fat deposition in sheep. Her team aims to identify vital molecular genetic markers assisting animal breeding. She was also in charge of establishing “Standardization farm. Meat sheep and goat - The People's Republic of China Agricultural Industry Standard - NY/T 2665-2014”, which had been popularized and applied in the standardized production of many large-scale meat sheep and goat farms in china. It had made great contribution to the economic benefit of sheep breeding industry in China. She presided over 10 scientific research projects. More than 150 academic papers from 1990 to 2023 have been published.
