1. Personal information
Shulin Yang: Doctor of agriculture, senior researcher, doctoral supervisor. He received his bachelor's degree in Animal Husbandry from Huazhong Agricultural University in 1999 and received his Doctor degree in Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction from Huazhong Agricultural University in 2004. Since 2004, he has been working at the Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and mainly focused on the development the animal model of type 2 diabetes with minipigs.
2. Research direction and achievements
Since 2004, he has been mainly focused on the development the animal model of type 2 diabetes with minipigs. He conduct a 23-month study on type 2 diabetes induced by high-fat and high-sucrose diet in minipigs, and systematically described the molecular pathological characteristics of β-cells damaged by lipotoxicity, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, diabetic nephropathy, myocardial hypertrophy and muscular atrophy with minipigs in the early stage of type 2 diabetes, providing important data for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and its complications. Through the development of site-specific integration, multi-transgenic and tissue-specific expression techniques, they established minipig that express polygenes specifically in H11 seat integration, islets and liver, which accelerated the pathological process. The establishment of small pig type 2 diabetes model will provide basic materials for therapeutic target screening, drug development and new drug evaluation for human type 2 diabetes, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, cardiovascular diseases, diabetic nephropathy and retinopathy, etc. He has hosted 15 national projects such as International Science Foundation, The National Natural Science Foundation of China and "863", etc., 2 provincial and ministerial projects, and participated in 25 projects. Obtained 24 China national invention patents (6 first inventors), 1 US patent, 2 software Copyrights. 117 papers were published, of which 47 were first authors or corresponding authors (25 were included in SCI). Participated in the compilation of 3 books. The research achievements have been awarded: 7 provincial and ministerial awards. The Ministry of Agriculture identified (or evaluated) 3 results, reaching the international advanced or leading level.
