The National Pigeon Science and Technology Innovation Alliance was established in November 2017 as a professional alliance under the framework of the National Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, and was recognized as a "benchmark alliance" by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in March 2021. The members of the alliance consist of 85 governing units, 23 scientific research institutions, 4 provincial extension departments and 58 enterprises from 20 provinces, cities and autonomous regions across China.

The Alliance takes "collaborative innovation, science and technology leading, industrial upgrading" as the main line of development. The purpose of the alliance is to condense industrial technology problems, build an efficient collaborative innovation mechanism, stimulate original innovation, transformation of results and benefit sharing, and achieve green and sustainable development.

In recent years, the Alliance has accelerated the cultivation of new breeds, bred "Tianxiang No. 1" and "Suwei No. 1" meat pigeon supporting lines and validated "Taihu Dot Pigeon" local breeds to solve the problem of technical bottleneck in the meat pigeon breeding industry, improved the scientific and technological innovation capacity of the pigeon industry, formulated seven national standards, line standards and group standards, developed a special vaccine for pigeon Newcastle disease, and helped promote the high-quality development of the industry. The Alliance adopted the model of "alliance + leading enterprises + base" to form a whole industry chain development integrating breeding, propagation and deep processing of products to help rural revitalization.
