The Key Laboratory of Quality & Safety Control for Dairy Products of China Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was approved in 2018. There are 31 permanent staff members, including 9 with senior titles and 7 with associate titles. There is one national outstanding talent in agricultural research and one innovation team, and one national young "scientific and technological innovation leader" of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
After the establishment of the laboratory, it is oriented to the national needs and the frontier of discipline development, and focuses on the major key technologies and major common technologies that restrict the quality and safety of dairy industry, and carries out basic and applied basic research on milk and dairy products standards and inspection and testing, quality and safety risk assessment and early warning, quality and safety process control, and nutrition function evaluation. The laboratory has established safety control technologies to realize the control of key points in the dairy production process, and developed 14 of mycotoxins, 61 of veterinary drugs and 22 of heavy metals and mineral elements series synchronous testing technology, solving the major problems of low monitoring efficiency and high cost. The laboratory has developed 21 safety control standards, which have been applied nationwide to significantly reduce the major risk factors such as aflatoxin M1, veterinary drug residues, heavy metal contamination, colony count and somatic cell count in raw milk, reaching the level of developed countries in Europe and America. The related achievements won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 2020.
