The National Animal Husbandry Science and Technology Innovation Alliance was established in December 2017 under the framework of the National Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, led by the Institute of Animal Science of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The alliance members are formed by 140 national-level research institutes, provincial academy of science institutes (research centers), extension agencies, universities and leading enterprises. In March 2021, it was recognized as a "benchmark alliance" by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Alliance focuses on organizing scientific research, teaching, enterprises and other units and experts in the animal husbandry industry to carry out scientific and technological collaborative innovation, focusing on technological innovation in animal resources and breeding industry creation, livestock and poultry nutrition and healthy breeding of the whole industrial chain, and production of high-quality functional livestock and poultry products, strengthening basic research, breaking through key technologies, strengthening integration and demonstration, focusing on solving major key technological problems in the overall development of the animal husbandry industry and the region, leading the healthy and sustainable development of the animal husbandry industry, and finally realizing the overall strength of China's animal husbandry science and technology into the world's advanced ranks.
In recent years, the alliance established a beef cattle breeding consortium, which bred a new breed of "Huaxi cattle" and reduced the dependence on foreign breeding sources; established an international genomic selection technology system for broiler chickens, which bred a new breed of "Guangming 2" white feather broiler chickens and achieved a breakthrough in white feather broiler breeding sources "from 0 to 1"; joint 37 alliance units to collaborate on research and demonstration of green yield and efficiency models for dairy cattle, pigs and ducks, which established 82 demonstration bases in the main production areas and promoted the demonstration of 4.25 million dairy cows, 29 million pigs and 3 billion ducks, and successfully held two international summits on livestock and poultry breeding science and technology innovation.
