The scientific innovation team of hen and pigeon genetic breeding adheres to the principle of “scientific problems come from production practice”. The team focuses on the technical bottlenecks in hen and pigeon breeding practice, and collects, evaluates and protects germplasm resources, analyzes the genetic control mechanisms of important traits, innovates selection techniques, creates new germplasm and breeds new varieties. Since “the 13th Five-Year Plan”, they have presided over more than 20 important projects/topics such as 1 National Key R&D Program and 5 National Natural Science Foundation of China, transferred 4 technical achievements, and the achievements related to the protection of Beijing oil chickens and other local chickens, the research and development application of key technologies for industrial upgrading of new breed breeding, etc. and were awarded the first prize of the 2019 Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award and the Da Bei Nong Animal Breeding Award.
