Research & Application of Breeding and Feeding Technique in New Beijing Duck Strains
Through about 30-year collaborative breeding research, the routine breeding techniques and assistant selection by molecular marker for Pekin ducks were developed further and two specialized strains of Pekin ducks were bred successfully, namely Z-type Pekin ducks with rapid growth, high lean meat and feed efficiency and Lankou-Ⅰ Pekin ducks with high skin fat. Furthermore, the nutrient requirements of meat-type ducks and new feeding techniques for ducks were also developed. Due to all above research achievements, approximately seventy million commercial ducks from these two new specialized duck strains were produced and spread to many provinces with economic outputs of above two billion RMB every year. |
